New year, new boxes

January is a time for good intentions, resolutions, tidying, organising, sorting... and repapering tatty old (non-matching) shoe boxes!!

This is a really easy and effective project that only requires a few old (or new) shoe boxes, some wrapping paper and pva glue:

I picked up some colour co-ordinating greeny wrapping papers from Spitalfields Market to cover a selection of boxes to keep all sorts of bits and bobs tidy, such as writing notelets and cards, paints and paintbrushes, old cds etc.

In a jar I mixed a tiny bit of water with some pva glue to the consistency of double cream. Placing a shoe box and its lid on the centre of a sheet of wrapping paper, I lightly drew around the boxes with a pencil to ensure I had enough paper round each edge to cover each side:

Gluing the paper to the bottom of the box first, I then used scissors to make four angled cuts in the paper towards the bottom corners of the box to make it easier to stick the paper to each side and end:

After gluing paper to the long sides and the small triangles of paper onto the ends of the box, I then cut the remaining sections of the paper to the match the width of the ends of the box and glued them up:

Finally, I glued the four flaps of the paper to the inside of the box to keep it in place, and it looks neater than cutting off the excess paper, and repeated for the lid.
